Computer-based shutter speed tester

Using the tester

The light source

The light source is a bit ill-defined unless you use a photo-emmitter. There is a separate page on using a photoemmitting diode as your light source.

I have used high powered torches but I have not tested the full set of issues. The most successful appeared to have been torch with a cover on the front that let through a 2mm vertical slit of light.

Sensitivity

You have to check the sensitivity of your diode and circuit by trying light sources and adjusting the potentiometer.

The software gives you a test option that is designed to help you line up the light source and the diode but it can also help in testing sensitivity.
